The First Confession

The Milkman

~~~
Welcome to the comfy-cosy café that is The Milkman, right at the heart of Edinburgh's city centre.
Yellow-toned lights create a warm ambience, with exposed brick-work adding a rustic effect that marries well with the café's brightly showcased logo. This independent coffee shop keeps it simple and homely with their seating arrangements of wooden worktops and accompanying stools, or 'cozy coffee shop corner' which claims to be the most popular spot in the café. The Milkman also offer outdoor seating and are kind enough to supply blankets for those that choose to take their coffee outside and brave the cold weather that's been creeping up on Scotland's doorstep.
Given I was impressed by the café's appearance, I had high hopes for their coffee, and let me tell you, they didn't disappoint. My little flat white made up of a tangy shot of coffee and silky smooth milk was the perfect afternoon coffee hidden away from the busy city centre. The Milkman offer a favourable selection of coffees, which are displayed fittingly on their blackboard-type menu, which will soon be updated with new additions (which I can't wait to try) including a Chai Latte and Turmeric latte. For those that enjoy their coffee with a sweet treat, The Milkman's tray-bake selection is typically hard to resist. From walnut brownies and marshmallow-y rocky roads to a more traditional carrot cake slice, it's hard to curb the sudden sweet cravings.
Not only is the coffee great and the café a perfect escape from our mundane days, the staff are friendly and accommodating too. The owner (Mark) was seen front of house serving and making coffee, chatting to his customers (including me, thanks for letting me take candids of you Mark) which I think is what sets the independent cafés apart -in a good way-  from the likes of Costa/Starbucks.
All in All, The Milkman is the perfect place to press pause and read a book or watch the world go by, amidst the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh's City centre.
